Women’s Footy

The Warren-Blackwood Bombers were formed in 2019.   With the development and the nationwide expansion of the game for females, it became evident a pathway needed to be created for the youth of the Lower South West.   Up until 2018 local girls were playing football with their local junior clubs, with the boys. After the final year of Junior Football at year 9 school age, it basically ended.   The Bombers were formed to provide a pathway for girls aged Year 10 – 12 to participate against girls their age in the Bunbury based South West Junior Football League.

The Girls quickly gelled together and have become a real force in the competition.  Having adopted the Black & White stripes of the Club which was willing to provide the opportunity for the girls, the team added a highly visible pink stripe to their Jumper.  The Bomber Logo is unashamedly the Magpie designed and used by Imperials in the early 2000’s . Having now played 3 seasons the Bombers have forged an incredible record, winning the 2019 and 2021 Premierships.

Once finishing Year 12 and not being eligible to play for the Bombers anymore , the Donnybrook Football Club has seen an influx of players joining their team to play in the South West Football League.

We quickly recognized the impact the Bombers were having on Football in the LSW.   The Clubs have embraced the Bombers and they get regular newspaper articles and are always acknowledged at the annual LSW presentation nights.

The annual Bombers end of season Presentation night “The Bomber Brownlow” this evening the Fairest & Best Player for the season is awarded the Maree Hurley Medal .   The medal is struck in the name of Maree , as she has been a strong promoter of Girls Football for many years and still and to this day runs the Auskick at Imperials , where many Boys & Girls get their first taste of Football.

In the Short time the Bombers have produced 2 state representatives – Dana East and Holly Gill.   A number of other players have represented East Perth in the Rogers Cup. Many of the girls get to garnish their skills as part of the South West regional Football Academy.    Lastly one of our players and our original Maree Hurley Medalist, Dana East has gone on to the highest level possible, being drafted to the Fremantle Dockers. Dana has already fitted into the midfield and has been nominated as an AFL Rising Star.

For many Imperial Die Hards, its pleasing to hear the Bombers have even adopted the Club Song and its starts “Cheer , Cheer the Black , Pink & White”
